Stop Killing Your Battery! 3 Things You Must Know Before Buying a Power Bank

Is Your Power Bank Actually Killing Your Phone? Here’s What I’ve Learned. This is exactly how I’d write it if I were posting it myself—no fancy “article” words, just real talk, personal experience, and some honest advice for the community.

I will tell you, is your power bank actually killing your phone? Here’s What I’ve Learned.

A power bank is a good thing, but sometimes it has your device. Now I can tell you in detail about that.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been out, my phone hits that dreaded 5% mark, and I feel that instant panic. Naturally, I reach for a power bank. But lately, I’ve realized something scary: most of us are actually “poisoning” our $1,000 phones with $10 chargers without even knowing it.

I’ve been testing a lot of gadgets and devices lately for Fusions Hub, and I’ve seen some pretty shady products in both the international and local markets. So, before you plug in your phone next time, let me share a few things I’ve picked up.

The “Sandbag” Scam is Real
I’ll be honest with you—if you’re scrolling through Daraz or walking through a local market and you see a massive 30,000mAh power bank for the price of a burger, don’t buy it. I’ve actually opened up some of these “budget” units myself, and what I found was shocking. Some only had one or two real battery cells inside; the rest of the weight was just small bags of sand or dirt glued in there to make it feel heavy and “high-quality.” It is really a big scam with the buyers, so always buy from a trusted page or store. These fakes don’t just charge slowly—they’re a fire hazard.

Will a 65W Charger Fry My Battery?
This is the question I get in my DMs almost every day: “Jani, if I use a 65W power bank on my iPhone, will it explode?” The short answer is no, as long as you’re using a brand I trust, like Anker, Baseus, or even reliable local names like Ronin. These devices have smart chips that “talk” to your phone. My phone only takes the power it can actually handle. The real killer isn’t the speed; it’s the heat. If I use a no-name power bank that lets the voltage jump around, that’s when I see my battery health drop from 100% to 90% in a few months. I always look for that PD (Power Delivery) logo before I buy.

Where I Spend My Own Money
If I have the budget, I always go for the international giants like Ronin or Anker. They are the gold standard for a reason. But I also know the local market in Pakistan inside out.

I’ve noticed brands like Ronin and Faster have actually improved a lot recently. The biggest advantage of buying these locally is the warranty. If a cell dies, I can actually get a replacement. When I sell these in my store, Fusions Hub, I make sure they are tested because I don’t want anyone’s phone dying on them after a week. Our team can check the products and then buy them in lots to sell good products to customers and not scam them.

My Personal “Golden Rule” for Gaming
Here’s a tip from my own personal experience: I never play PUBG or Genshin Impact while my phone is plugged into a power bank. The “double heat” from the battery charging plus the processor working overtime is the fastest way to ruin your battery’s lifespan. Seriously, I just give it 20 minutes to top up, then I get back to the game once I’ve unplugged. My phone’s battery health has stayed way better since I started doing this.

My Final Thoughts:
I look at my phone as an investment. I wouldn’t let a cheap cable or a fake power bank turn it into a paperweight. It’s always better to spend a little more once on a quality charger than to spend a fortune later on a battery replacement.
