WiFi Not Working After Windows Update? Here’s How to Fix It
Windows updates break WiFi in three main ways — replacing your manufacturer's WiFi driver with a generic one, corrupting the registry entry so the adapter disappears entirely, or resetting TCP/IP and DNS configuration. Start with the driver rollback in Device Manager and work through from there.

WiFi Not Working After Windows Update — Fix 1: Run the Network Troubleshooter First
Not because it always works — it often doesn’t — but because it takes 60 seconds and occasionally identifies the exact problem without you having to dig further.
Go to Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters → Internet Connections. Run it. If it finds and fixes something, great. If it comes back with “couldn’t identify the problem” or “no changes were made,” that’s fine too — it just means you move to the actual fixes below.

Fix 4 — Uninstall the Problematic Windows Update
If the driver fixes above don’t resolve it, going back to the state before the update is a legitimate option.

WiFi Not Working After Windows Update — Fix 5: Flush DNS and Reset TCP/IP
Sometimes the update doesn’t break the driver at all — it resets network configuration in a way that leaves the adapter working but unable to route traffic properly. This produces a “connected, no internet” situation rather than a missing WiFi icon.
If your WiFi adapter appears and connects to the network but has no internet access, these commands fix the network stack configuration. Open Command Prompt as Administrator — right-click Start, select “Terminal (Admin)” or “Command Prompt (Admin)” — and run these in order:

Device Manager → Network Adapters → right-click your WiFi adapter → Properties → Power Management tab. Uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.” This prevents Windows from putting the adapter into a low-power state that causes intermittent disconnections.

Try this: in Device Manager, click View in the menu bar and select “Show hidden devices.” Check if the WiFi adapter appears greyed out in the list. If it does, right-click it and select Uninstall, then restart. Windows should rediscover the hardware on reboot.
If it still doesn’t appear after showing hidden devices, the hardware detection has failed at the system level. This sometimes requires a System Restore to a point before the update was installed. Search for “Create a restore point” in the Start menu, open it, click System Restore, and follow the process to restore to the most recent checkpoint before the update date.
